On eagles' wings
This felt like the right picture to draw today.
Context: Joe Biden has just been declared the new President of the US, and in his speech, he referenced the hymn, On Eagles' Wings.
Some people may wonder why the US elections would matter to a Singaporean. In practical terms, whatever the US does affects us, with regards to trade, international relations and so on, so as a small city-state, we're naturally interested.
For me personally though, the past four years hammered home the importance of character, dignity, integrity and grace in a world leader - mostly because all these traits were conspicuously absent from the White House. Some things you don't miss or take for granted until you it's not there. In the end, I think only Trump missed the irony that a liar and cheat was wildly accusing others of lying and cheating.
As someone said, whether you're against or for Trump, the world is exhausted. It's tiring giving attention to someone who demands it daily, and does it by fabricating and eliciting outrage. Enough is enough. And just knowing that enough people feel likewise, sufficiently to act on it, is heartening and brings hope to what has been a trying year.
I don't know if Joe Biden is the answer, but his speech was refreshingly conciliatory and sincere - at a time when most Americans thought in terms of us versus them, his message of peace and healing moved me and couldn't have been more welcome. May God's guiding hand be on him.
Bear you on the breath of dawn
Make you to shine like the sun
And hold you in the palm of His hand."
